International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

On this date the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the exploitation of the Prostitution of Others (Resolution 317(IV) of December 1949 was adopted by the United Nations.  Despite the abolition of slavery hundreds of years ago slavery still persists across the globe.
