Prime Minister Harris extends condolences to family of Leanna Napoleon

T-Harris-ParliamentBasseterre, St. Kitts, 16th June, 2017 ( - On the confirmation of the murder of 17-year-old Leanna Napoleon, who had been missing since 8th May, 2017, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris said in a statement that her death is the nation’s loss.

Speaking in the National Assembly sitting on 15th June, Prime Minister Harris said, "The loss of Leanna is her family's loss, and it is also the Nation's loss.  The death of a young person, in particular, is most significant and traumatic.  Our young people represent the future of this Country and when their lives are cut short, their potential remains under-developed and untapped, much to the detriment of our Country.”

Harris, who is also the minister of National Security, extended condolences to the family of Leanna, to her classmates, students and teachers of the Basseterre High School, whom he said, “Like her family, they must cope with her loss, seek closure, and go through the natural grieving process.”

The Prime Minister encouraged them to take advantage of counseling services at the Basseterre High School, as well as from the Department of Social Services.
